BMW has revealed a new all electric SUV with a 375 mile range. The new iX is around the same size as an X5 and will go on sale at the end  of 2021.

BMW describes the iX as a ‘new technology flagship’ bringing together the company’s latest developments in design, automated driving, connectivity and electrification. The ‘eDrive’ technology uses two electric motors, developing 500bhp; enough to power the BMW iX from 0 to 62 mph in under 5.0 seconds, faster than some of BMW’s M-Power performance models.

At the same time, BMW says the car is very efficient, with a total range of 375 miles from its 100kWh battery. New charging technology will enable DC rapid charging at up to 200 kW if you can find a suitable charger.

The batteries fitted in the BMW iX are designed to enable an exceptionally high recycling rate. The power used to produce the battery cells and the high-voltage battery as a whole come from renewable sources.

The car will be the first all-electric model since the i3 was launched in 2014, but it is expected to kick off a whole new range of EVs from the brand.

There is no news on pricing yet, but the iX is expected to slot in above the e-tron from arch-rivals Audi and the Mercedes EQC but head-t0-head with the Tesla Model X. That means a six-figure starting price....
